Billy Gray Johnson

Mr. Billy Gray Johnson, 77, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023, at his home.  Mr. Johnson was born July 2, 1945, in Surry County, one of thirteen children born to the late John Frank and Olevia Hemmings Johnson.  Billy retired as a self-employed plumber and was a member of Community Baptist Church.  He was also a longtime member of Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF and AM.  He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rita Haynes Johnson of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Missy and Tony East of Mount Airy; his grandchildren, Cory and Nicole East, Patrick and Alexis East, and Landon East and Nicole Reynolds, all of Mount Airy; his great-grandchildren, Levi East, Olevia East, Liam Mallard, and Luna East, all of Mount Airy; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Geraldine and Rayburn Sykes and Kathleen and Alex Hege, all of Mount Airy; a brother and five sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Nelda Johnson, Bessie Johnson, Andrea Johnson, and Mary Lou Johnson, all of Mount Airy, and Joann Johnson of Jefferson; and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by four sisters and brothers-in-law, Vera and Chester Mosley, Georgia and Aubrey Mosley, Dorothy and Bobby Riggs, and Foye and Birchard Younger; and five brothers and a sister-in-law, Greer Johnson, Paul Johnson, Bernie Johnson, Otis and Shirley Johnson, and Wade Johnson.  A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Community Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Bradley L. Quesinberry officiating.  Masonic rites will be conducted by Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF and AM.  No formal visitation will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC  27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
