Mr. Billy Maxwell Jackson, 77, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday night, March 28, 2017, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Jackson was born September 24, 1939, in Surry County, the younger of two children born to the late Meigs Marion “Doc” and Alma Badgett Jackson. Billy served our country in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis era. He retired as a draftsman from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after many years of service. Billy was also a noted artist, with special interests in sculpturing, and he also enjoyed showing Dalmatians at numerous dog shows throughout North Carolina. He is survived by a sister, Gaye Jackson Martin of Mount Airy; two nephews and their wives, Mitch and Sheri Martin and Kirk and Lisa Martin, all of Mount Airy; a great niece and her husband, Kari and Dalton Reynolds of Mount Airy; and a great nephew and his wife, T.J. and Courtney Martin of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his first wife, Mollie Graham Jackson; and a brother-in-law, Benny Nathaniel Martin. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, with a private interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Airy Dialysis Center, 1280 Newsome Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Surry Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 981, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
