Mr. Billy Lawrence Simpson, 77, formerly of 127 Marion Avenue, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Simpson was born June 15, 1930, in Surry County, to the late John and Mae McMillian Simpson. Billy was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and retired as a superintendent in asphalt construction after many years of service. He was a member of Renfro Masonic Lodge 691 AF and AM and a member of White Plains Friends Meeting. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Irene "Rennie" Dunbar Simpson of Mount Airy; a daughter, Kimberly Simpson of Mount Airy; three grandchildren and spouses, Justin and Julie Hunter of Lowgap, Brett Hunter of Winston-Salem, and Cagney and Eric Nichols of Mount Airy; two great-grandchildren, Emma Rae Hunter of Lowgap and Conner James Nichols of Mount Airy; two sisters, Frances Simpson Atkins and Polly Simpson Watson, both of Mount Airy; and a brother, Glenn David Simpson of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Lawrence Simpson; and seven brothers, Sherman Dallas Simpson, Herman Gilbert Simpson, Johnny Carroll Johnson, John Jack Simpson, Cirgus Simpson, Gurnie Ross Simpson, and Troy Simpson. The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. George Jones, Jr., and burial will follow in the White Plains Friends Meeting Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Kimberly Simpson, 1630 Simpson Mill Road, Mount Airy.
