Billy Ray Smith

Mr. Billy Ray Smith, 75, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Smith was born January 12, 1937, in Surry County, the son of the late Herbert Neil and Nanny Vesti Shelton Smith. He was a retired electrician and a member of the Christian faith. He served our country in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Watson Smith of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Darren Ray and Alison Smith of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Tyler Ray, Jackson Wesley, Landon Blake, and Lauren Ashleigh Smith; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence Edward and Shelby Smith, Bobby Gray and Shelby Smith, and Clay Franklin and Joan Smith, all of Mount Airy, and Herbert and Lorie Smith of Smithville, VA; four sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Willa Dean Bowman and Jane and Parley J. Jones, all of Mount Airy, Georgia Anderson of Claudville, VA, and Elvi Watson of Seaford, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Virginia Smith Childress; and a brother, Russell Newton Smith. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 7, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Ralph Sproles and the Rev. Stewart Mauck officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
