Birdie Singer

Mrs. Berdessa “Birdie” Lee Winters Singer, 74, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 15, 2020.  She was born on September 10, 1945 in Jamestown, NY to the late Ralph and Virginia Blood Winters.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Birdie was a three-time cancer survivor and a huge advocate for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  Birdie and her husband were instrumental in fundraisers for St. Jude’s raising over a million dollars.  Left to cherish her loving memory are her husband of 55 years, Lester Singer; son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Wendy Singer; son-in-law, Don Grueshaber; 6 grandchildren, Joseph and Leah Singer, Lindsey Singer and Mike Guerrero, Steven, Allan, Gage, and Ethan Grueshaber; 5 great-grandchildren, Margo Singer, Elijah and Kai Lee Guerrero, Alex and Aaron Grueshaber; and many many friends.  In addition to her parents, Birdie was preceded in death by her daughter, Ginger Singer Grueshaber; and by three sisters, Carol, Doris, and Glenda.  A Celebration of Birdie’s Life will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:00pm at Moody Funeral Home, 206 W. Pine St, Mount Airy, NC 27030.  There will be another Celebration of Life for Mrs. Singer on Sunday, March 15, 2020 from 12:00 – 3:00 pm at Teamsters Local 20 Union Hall, 435 S. Hawley St., Toledo, OH 43609.  Memorial contributions in Birdie’s memory can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
