Bobby "Bunk" Thomas

Mr. Bobby “Bunk” Lee Thomas, 82, of Mount Airy, passed away on Thursday evening, December 19, 2019 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson surrounded by his loving family.  Mr. Thomas was born in Surry County on August 9, 1937 to the late John Samuel Thomas and Annie Mathis Thomas.  Mr. Thomas was a well-known self-employed car mechanic and he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be forever missed.  Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Alice Owens Thomas; children, Jeff Thomas and Merry, Karen Smith and David, Mark Thomas and Debbie, and Kristen Pruett; 8 grandchildren, Chad and Leigh Ann Smith, Tracy and Brian Snow, Justin Smith, Devin and Heather Thomas, Tim Thomas, Amanda and Eric Barnett, Chase Pruett, and Brett Pruett; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia “Sis” and Carl Norman, Glenda Pike, Betty Thomas, Tina and Joe Wright, and Pansy Cromer; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Annie Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Thomas, and Jo Anna Thomas Vernon; and by a brother, Roy Weldon Thomas.  The funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at 3:30PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Chris Benfield officiating.  Burial will follow in the Oakdale cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday night from 6:00 – 8:00PM at Moody Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
