Bobby Elwood Dickens

Mr. Bobby Elwood Dickens, 74, of 929 North Franklin Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, August 18, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Dickens was born April 22, 1935, in Surry County, to the late Cecil Washington and Gladys Cruise Dickens. He was a bus driver for the Carroll County School System and attended New Beginnings Community Church. Surviving are his wife, Wanda Johnson Dickens of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Derek Casstevens of Pilot Mountain; three sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Frankie Dickens of Cana, VA, Kenneth and Teresa Dickens and Todd and Cindy Dickens, all of Mount Airy; eleven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a special cousin, Phyllis Eastridge of Stuart, VA. The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 20, 2009, at 11:00 AM at New Beginning Community Church, with the Rev. Wes Mosteller and the Rev. Richard Lamon Casstevens officiating. Burial will follow in the Dickens Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at New Beginnings Community Church, 1790 Old Pipers Gap Road, Cana, VA. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
