Mr. Bobby Gray Gammons, 72, of 232 Janice Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday morning, August 1, 2010, at his home. Mr. Gammons was born November 29, 1937, in Surry County, to the late Thomas and Lettie Susie Hicks Gammons. He was a United States Navy veteran and a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. He worked for Tom's Snacks for over 30 years and was a security guard for Kentucky Derby Hoseiry. Surviving are his wife, Lois Faulkner Gammons of the home; a daughter, Dr. Lisa Kay Gammons and her husband, Dean Davis, of Mooresville; a son, Chad Eric Gammons and his wife, Dr. Louise Clark Gammons, of Charlotte; six grandchildren and a spouse, Anthony and Amanda Jones, Caitlyn Davis, Carson Davis, Morrighan Gammons, Braeden Gammons, and Ricky Page Gammons; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla Jones and Lucas Jones; a sister, Inez Smith of Mount Airy; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Dennis and Jesse Gammons and Wayne Gammons, all of Mount Airy; and his special dog, Tia Maria. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gammons was preceded in death by a son, Rick Gray Gammons; a sister, Bessie Morrison; and three brothers, Walter Gammons, Alvin Gammons, and Randall Gammons. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Holly Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.R. Nations and the Rev. Wayburn Mosley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express a special thanks to his nurses, Kelly Key and Charlie Watson, and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the compassion and care.
