Bobby Gray Johnson

Mr. Bobby Gray Johnson, age 89 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday morning February 17, 2025. Mr. Johnson was born in Surry County on December 26, 1935, to the late Howard William Johnson and Cornelia Alice Hiatt Johnson. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he’ll be deeply missed by all that knew him. In his spare time, Mr. Johnson could be found on a lake or in the river fishing, loved hunting rabbits, and playing many games of golf. Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Esther Draughn Johnson; daughter, Sharon Williams and fiancé, Ricky Norman; son and daughter-in-law, Steven Gray Johnson and Sue; grandchildren, Jessica Leigh Johnson and partner, Kelly Whitaker, Abbe Grae Johnson, Amanda Kay Lawson; great grandchildren, Carper Ty Lawson, Caden Riot Lawson, Casey Rip Lawson; brother and sister-in-law, Larry Johnson and Linda. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy Johnson and Mildred, Clifford Johnson and Georgia, Charles Johnson and Mary, Ronald Johnson. A graveside service will be held Friday, February 21, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the William Hiatt Cemetery with the Bishop Brian Johnson, Larry Johnson and Donnie Johnson officiating. There will be no formal services held at this time. The family wants to give a special thanks to all the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice for the care given to Mr. Johnson during his sickness.
