Mr. Bobby “Bob” Ray McHone, 87, of Lowgap, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, with his son, Mike, and Mike’s wife, Angela McHone, by his side. He was born September 22, 1933, in Surry County, to the late Claude Robert and Martha France McHone.
Mr. McHone started, owned, and operated Bobby McHone Plumbing and Septic Tank Service in 1968. He made, installed, and cleaned out septic tanks and plumbed homes all over Northwestern North Carolina and Southwest Virginia.
Bobby McHone was well known for the quality of work he did and his integrity. He did what he said he would. He took great pride in his work. Prior to that he was employed at North Carolina Granite Corporation.
He enjoyed running his business, auto racing, and old cars. He also loved to tell stories about the good old days, making moonshine and transporting it in his fast cars.
He lived a full life. He was a ladies’ man, with far too many women to mention, and he loved flirting. The first thing he asked every woman was if she was married?
He was a big hit at the nursing home with the ladies and stayed busy juggling two girlfriends. When not chasing women, he liked rocking on the front porch and whittling.
While Bobby will be dearly missed by all who knew him, he would want everyone to know that he was more than prepared and eager to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He had completed his work here on earth.
He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Cindy Elliot McHone; his parents, Claude Robert and Martha France McHone; and three brothers, Arnold, Jack, and Tommy McHone.
He leaves behind two sons and three daughters, Mike McHone and his wife, Angela McHone, of Lowgap, Darrel McHone and his friend, Teressa Harley, of Thomasville, Becky Shockley and her husband, David Shockley, of Kernersville, Judy McHone of Raleigh, and Pat McHone of Raleigh; seventeen grandkids, including Wayne, Bryan, Kelly, and Samantha McHone, Brooke and Brock Shockley, and Travis, Trevor, Forrest, and Ciera Antwine; six great-grandkids; and two brothers, James McHone of Mount Airy and David McHone of Huntsville, AL.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at 11:00 AM in the Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with the Rev. Arlis Thomas and the Rev. Roger Miller officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Skyline.
