Mr. Bobby Captain Pell, of 435 McBride Road, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010, at his home. Mr. Pell was born December 12, 1937, in Surry County, to the late Walter Ray and Betty McBride Pell. He retired from the North Carolina Granite Corporation after 42 years of service. Mr. Pell is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Alene Mabe Pell of the home; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Janice and Mark King, Barbara and Eric Burleson, Tammy Pell, Judy and Jimmy Thomas, Mary and Bo Branch, and Kathy Bonds, all of Mount Airy; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bobby and Sherelda Pell and Barry and Angela Pell, all of Ararat, VA, and Billy Pell of Mount Airy; twenty grandchildren, Jessica King Goodman, Travis Thomas, Holly Thomas Burkhart, Shawna Jackson Francis, Erika Jackson, Cody Deskins, Tyler Deskins, Cory Thomas, Kyle Thomas, Sam Simmons, Ella Branch, Clayton Bonds, and Cassidy Bonds, all of Mount Airy, and Brad Pell, Jonathan Pell, Justin Pell, Nicholas Pell, Allie Pell, and Abigail Pell, all of Ararat, VA; two great-grandchildren, Luke Francis and Jeffrey Burkhart, both of Mount Airy; two sisters, Bessie Pell Hall and Mary Pell Utt, both of Mount Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Herley and Peggy Pell and Dempsey and Susan Pell, all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pell was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittany Jade King; a sister, Dessie Pell Kirkman; and two brothers, Burr Pell and Clyde Pell. The funeral service will be held Monday, November 22, 2010, at 2:00 PM at The People Church, with the Rev. Eugene Brinkley officiating. Burial will follow in the McBride Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the church.
