Mr. Bobby Lee Speer, 80, was called home to be with the Lord in Heaven on October 17, 2008. Bobby was born on August 2, 1928 in Guilford County and passed away at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness. Bobby lived in Surry County and was a retired tobacco farmer. Bobby was a beloved father and grandfather to a large group of loved ones. He will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by Wiley Jarvis and Mary Dunn Casstevens, his Grandparents, of Yadkin County, Sephus and Dorothy Casstevens Speer, his parents, of Guilford County. Surviving Bobby, his wife of sixty one years, Dorothy Whitaker Speer, of the home; a sister, Mae Dixon of Raleigh; a brother, Jack Casstevens, of Middle Town, IN.; three nieces, Vicky, Pam, and Geryl. Bobby also leaves behind eight loving children, Tommy and Carolyn Speer, of Yadkinville, NC, Eldon and Nancy Speer, of Yadkinville, NC, Carolyn and Russell Jones, of Mt. Airy, NC, Ronnie Speer of Taylorsville, NC, Rex Speer, of Yadkinville, NC, Mike and Betty Speer, of Lowgap, NC., Tim and Dianne Speer, of Cana, Va., and Dorothy "Tiny" Speer, of Mount Airy, NC. He also leaves behind a daughter in law, Kathy Ownbey, of Mt. Airy, NC. He had eighteen grandsons and ten granddaughters; twelve great grandsons and nineteen great granddaughters; one great-great granddaughter. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday October 20, 2008, in the Chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson with burial to follow in the Speer Family Cemetery on Speer Road in Mt. Airy, NC; Brother Ralph Casstevens and Reverend H. Gene Casstevens will be conducting the Funeral Services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 6 until 9 P.M. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Yadkin Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
