Mr. Bobby Guy "Bob" Stevens, 77, of Mount Airy and Swansboro, passed away Friday morning, January 13, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Mount Airy. Mr. Stevens was born February 7, 1934, in Surry County, one of six children born to the late William Raymond Stevens and Etta Susan Hiatt Stevens. Bob was a successful entrepreneur and retired as the owner and operator of Acme Stone Company. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Mary Laura Chilton Stevens of the home; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Rebecca L. Stevens of Raleigh, Barbara G. Stevens and John Brooks of Fletcher, Laura and Charles Sechrist of Martinsville, VA, Sarah Stevens and Edwin Johnson of Mount Airy, and Lisa and Mike Weller of Harrisburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Cathy Stevens of Mount Airy; fifteen grandchildren and their spouses, Zachary S. and Krystyn Brintle, Daniel and Nisa Sechrist, Anna Jane Brinkley, Mary and Daniel Haymore, William Preston Stevens, Marybeth Stevens, Christopher Mark Stevens, II, Carl Michael Stevens, Benjamin Sechrist, Michael Weller, Jennifer Suzanne Collins, Anna Catherine Stevens, Caroline Weller, Maggie Elizabeth Collins, and Amy Stevens; three great-grandchildren, Colin Sechrist, Daila Sechrist, and Charlie Hernandez; several stepgrandchildren; several great-stepgrandchildren; a sister, Christine Stevens Hunter of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by a son, William Preston "Billy" Stevens; three sisters, Cleo Stevens, Vera Stevens Hiatt, and Mildred Stevens Hall; and a brother, James Raymond Stevens. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 14, 2012, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. A private graveside service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or a charity of the donor's choice.
