Bobby Ray Tate

Mr. Bobby Ray Tate, 85 of Ararat, Virginia passed away at Northern Regional Hospital on Monday, November 8, 2021. Mr. Tate was born on March 17, 1936, in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Ernest and Viola Edwards Tate. Bobby was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mr. Tate was a truck driver for 35 years and attended the Dixie Classic Farmers Market in Winston-Salem as a vendor for over 30 years. Left to cherish his memories are his daughters and sons-in-law, Gwendolyn Tate Schoenthal and Robert, Michele Tate Goad, Myra Tate Webber and Channing; grandchildren, Stephanie Goad Branson and Greg, Courtney Wyrick Owens and Brian; great-grandchildren, Maggie Owens, Kashton Owens; one sister, Dorsie Palmer; one sister-in-law, Ruth Hawks; and numerous friends and family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tate was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Hawks Tate, a sister, Orene Cagle; a brother, Harvey Tate; and brother-in-law, Wade Hawks. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Westview Baptist Church in Cana, Virginia with Pastor Ray Fleming officiating. Burial will follow at Flat Ridge Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 12, 2021, at Westview Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. The family will also receive friends at other times at the home of Myra Tate Webber. Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy is serving the family.
