Bonnie Bea Blackwood

In loving memory of Bonnie Bea Blackwood, age 90, of Floyd, formerly of Stuart, VA passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2024. She was born in Texas, the third oldest of six siblings, on October 8, 1933 to the late Oscar Ross Blackwood and Mary Geneva Pettit Blackwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne “Doyle” Blackwood and Waymon Blackwood; older sister and brother-in-law, Wilta and Robert Vaughn; younger sister, Mary Lyn Mattheisen; nephew Adam Vaughn; longtime friends Gerri, Corky and Nelda.

Bonnie was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was generous, creative, funny and always interested in what was going on in the lives of those she cared about. She loved all of nature’s beauty, every animal, pretty clothes and chocolate. Bonnie appreciated all of her brothers and sisters within her congregation. She focused her professional career around secretarial positions, where she was employed for many years at the University of California Bakersfield.

Bonnie always made time to visit friends and family. For fun she became an Avon representative, which she enjoyed for several years. She lived her later years in Florida with the last fifteen in Virginia. Those who knew her would agree, even though miles separated her from many of us, Bonnie always stayed close by keeping in touch. Remember the smiles… “If I could wrap love in a ribbon it would be my gift to you.”

Bonnie is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Danny (Debra) Blackwood; niece, Saron (Jeff) Wallace; a nephew, Jesse (Deidre) Blackwood; cousin, Ed Pettit; and special friends, Carolyn and family, Glenda and family, Brenda and Robert.
