Mrs. Bonnie Kathleen Smith Goad, 89, of Mount Airy, passed into the more immediate presence of God on Monday, July 26, 2010. Mrs. Goad was born December 26, 1920, in Forsyth County, to Oscar Sandy Smith and Annie Laurie Cline Smith Womble. She was a devoted and very active member of Grace Moravian Church, where she was past Sunday school teacher and treasurer for the Herbert Johnson Class and she sang in the choir. An avid reader, Mrs. Goad was a former member of the Provincial Elders Conference of Winston-Salem and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #18. Surviving are a daughter, Judith "Judy" Duke of Lewisville; a son and daughter-in-law, Smith and Nanci Jo Goad of Mount Airy; granddaughters, Allison Parrott and husband Jeffrey of Dalton, GA, Jennifer Barth and husband Bob of Stockholm, NJ, and Joy Lee and husband David of King; step-grandson, Jason Duke and wife Sara of Alpharetta, GA; great-granddaughter, Reagan Lee; great grandsons, Todd Parrott, Joshua Parrott, Jackson Barth, and Harrison Lee; step-great-grandchildren, Benjamin Duke and Olivia Duke; a sister and brother-in-law, Melinda Ann Smith Dellert and husband Jim of Forest, VA; and brothers and sister-in-law, T.M. "Mac" Smith and wife Ina of King and O. Manly Smith of Defuniak Springs, FL; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Goad was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas "Jimmie" Goad; a sister, Martha Louise Smith Kiger; and a brother, Carl Cline Smith. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 30, 2010, at noon at Grace Moravian Church, with the Rev. Tony Hayworth officiating. Burial will follow in God's Acre. The family will receive friends Friday at the church from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Mrs. Goad's wonderful caregivers, Cynthia Thomas and Jennifer Chase, whom they couldn't have made it without. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Grace Moravian Church, at 1401 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
