Brenda Hoosier Arnder

Mrs. Brenda Hoosier Arnder, age 67, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born on August 11, 1957 in Grayson County to the late Paul and Ergle Sheets Hoosier. Mrs. Arnder lived in Mt. Airy for more than 40 years. She was a CNA for many years, working through nursing homes and other agencies in Surry County. She also cleaned houses around Mt. Airy and Pilot Mountain areas. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Crystal Arnder Chappell and husband Anthony, of Mt. Airy, Peggy Shaffner, of Mt. Airy; three grandchildren: Javer Chappell, Lucas Chappell, and Sayler Chappell, all of Mt. Airy; sisters, Sue Funk and husband Curt, Barbara Cornett all of Fries VA; brother: Roger Hoosier of Fries VA; three special friends: Diane Michael, Treasa Roberts and Cheryl Sage; five step grandchildren: Zoe, Taylor, Caleb Arnder, and Matthew and Novella Nester; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Arnder was preceded in death by, brothers: Paul Atkins, Thomas Hoosier, and Melvin Hoosier; sisters: Geneva Hash and Carolyn Funk. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday January 18, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church in Mt. Airy with service conducted by Pastor Alex Martin. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 1:00 PM until the time for the service at the church. The family would like to thank the medical staff of Baptist Hospital and also the staff of the Joan & Woltz Hospice home in Dobson for their care and support. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in honor of Brenda to the Special Olympics of Surry County or the Surry County Animal Shelter.
