Mr. Bruce Walker Carr, 90, of 205 Cedar Knoll Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Friday afternoon, November 12, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Carr was born July 28, 1920, in Hillsborough County, NH, son of the late Ernest Franklin and Eleanor Keyes Carr. Bruce retired as the chief chemist from Allied Chemical Company after 43 years of service and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He devoted his life to serving others through community service. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mildred Edwards Carr of the home; a daughter, Elizabeth Anne Carr of Asheville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert Bruce Carr, Edward Franklin and Suzanne Carr, and Dennis Walker and Judy Carr, all of Wilmington, DE; four grandchildren, Laura Michele Carr and Jennifer Carr, both of Wilmington, DE, and Jamie Brown and Krystal Brown, both of Asheville; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Carr was preceded in death by two sisters, Eva Geraghty and Anita Benson; and a brother, Bob Carr. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 20, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church, with the Reverend Raymond J. Hanna officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1043, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or a charity of the donor's choice. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Carr family.
