Mr. Bruce Alfred Younger, 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, November 12, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Younger was born September 12, 1930, in Surry County, to the late Harrison Seymore and Myrtle East Younger. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Bruce was a farmer, which he enjoyed with his family for many years. He also retired from Northern Hospital of Surry County and was a devoted member of Community Baptist Church. Mr. Younger served on the Board of Directors for Surry Telephone Membership Corporation for 42 years and was currently serving as its president. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Pennix Younger of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Gary Sewell of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Patsy Younger and Brad and Karen Younger, all of Mount Airy; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Treva Collins of Mount Airy and Dorothy and Thomas Mills of Winston-Salem; and five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Kermit Younger, Birchard and Foye Younger, Jim and Janice Younger, Pete and Barbara Younger, Rex Younger, and Pauline Younger, all of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Younger was preceded in death by an infant sister, Lena Younger; and a brother, Randolph Younger. The funeral service will be held Sunday, November 14, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Community Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sammy Lawson, the Rev. Kenneth Jessup, and the Rev. Milton Sewell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with full military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mouny Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
