Mr. Bryan Tillman Mills, 55, of Dobson, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 9, 2021, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Mills was born April 3, 1965, in Surry County, the older of two children born to the late Bobby Herbert and Sylvia Sue Hantzopoulos Mills. Bryan was reared in the Level Cross community and graduated from Surry Central High School in 1983. He joined Boy Scouts of America at age 7, earning his Eagle Scout in 1983. Bryan was a Vigil honor member of Wahissa Lodge #118 of The Order of the Arrow. Bryan worked many years as an automotive technician and even spent two years in the classroom teaching automotive technology. Additionally, he served on the coaching staff at Forbush High School and Surry Central High School as one of the Hunter Safety Team instructors for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sharlene Bernadette Toone Mills of the home; two sons, Bryan Andrew Mills and Jacob Tillman Mills, both of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Kelly and Randy Westmoreland of Ararat; a niece, Jordan Westmoreland of Ararat; and his mother-in-law, Lorene Toone of Dobson. A service of worship and celebration of Bryan’s life will be held Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Level Cross United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Wesley Hall officiating. No formal visitation will be held; however, family and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy and on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church. Due to public health concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. For those wishing to remain in their vehicle during the graveside service, a radio frequency (90.9 FM) will be provided by the church.
