Mr. Buford Samuel King, 76, of Mount Airy, was born in Patrick County, VA, to the late Percy and Hester Manikins King, on March 28, 1935. Mr. King is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Phyllis Carraway-King; a son, Warren King of Mount Airy; a daughter, Gloria (Greg) Simmons of Lowgap; two grandsons, Colt Simmons and Samuel (Courtney) Simmons of Mount Airy; two granddaughters, Stephanie Barber of Lowgap and Alexis King of Mount Airy; three great-grandchildren, Laken, Madelyn, and Mackenzie Barber; two brothers, Cloyd (Teresa) King of Martinsville, VA, and Gates King of Ararat, VA; and three sisters, Pansy (Don) Floyd of Lexington, SC, Mozelle Mangus of The Villages, FL, and Estelle (Anthony) Terry of Ararat, VA. Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Samuel Ray King; and his first wife of 39 years, Shelby Harold King. Mr. King sold new cars for 17 years and retired from King Motors that he owned and operated for 28 years. Mr. King lived a full life. He drove race cars, was an airplane pilot, loved playing his bass guitar, and building and trading antique cars and trucks. He restored several old cars. He loved hunting, fishing, and gospel music. He was a member of Mount Ararat Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was also a member of Renfro Masonic Lodge #691 AF & AM. Mr. King will be missed by everyone who knew him. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 9, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Rickey Rogers and the Rev. Allen Barker officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
