Byrd Edgar Whitaker, Jr. (Junior)

Mr. Byrd Edgar Whitaker, Jr., (Junior), age 79 of Pilot Mountain, husband of Beulah F. Warden Whitaker, passed away Monday, March 26, 2007 at Surry Community Nursing Center. Mr. Whitaker was born in Surry County March 10, 1928 to Byrd Edgar Whitaker, Sr. and Letha Flinchum Whitaker. He was a farmer and was retired from John S. Clark and was a member of Hills Grove Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife, Beulah Whitaker of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Daryl Hauser of Winston-Salem; Patricia and Chip Bondurant and Shelby and Matt Graybeal all of Mt. Airy; sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry Whitaker of Statesville; Leon and Jan Whitaker of Mt. Airy; Michael Whitaker of Butner; grandchildren, Shannon Collins, Shawn Whitaker, David Whitaker, Matthew Graybeal, Luke Needham, Holly Hauser, Carley Hauser; four great grandchildren; and two sisters, Hazel Edmonds of Mt. Airy and Agnes (Zip) Bruner of Pinnacle. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by a step daughter, Kathy Darnell and a step son, Donald Darnell; three sisters, Hessie Whitaker, Allie Peele and Thelma Dalton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 29, 2007 at Hills Grove Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Emmett Crotts and Rev. Odell Sisk. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 to 9 at Moody Funeral Home where his body will remain until time the to be taken to the church to lie in state thirty minutes prior the service.
