Callie Mae Handy

Mrs. Callie Mae Handy age 107 of the County Line Eldercare, in Axton Va. died Saturday June 30, 2007 at the Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, NC. She was born in Meadows of Dan, Va. June 12, 1900 to the late John William (Will) Handy and the late Nancy Annie Belcher Handy. She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel Lee Handy, also preceded in death by two daughters, Myrtle Goard, Pauline Clifton, and one son James (J. D.) Handy also one grandchild Keela Joyce Bing. She is the oldest member in age and membership at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Roanoke, Va. Callie her husband and family settled in Meadows of Dan, on a farm formerly known as "Buck Jones Place". She and the children all had responsibilities in the home in addition to running a general store and restaurant. In 1945 the family moved to Roanoke, Va. where they operated a general store and traded cattle and parcels of land. She is survived by three daughters; Thelma Spangler of Martinsville, Va. Delcie Blades of Locust grove, Va. and Irene Joyce and husband Bill of Ridgeway, Va. one son-in-law Guy Clifton of Roanoke, Va. 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday July 3, 2007 at 11am at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, Va. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside Committal will be at 3 pm.Tuesday July 3, 3007 at Evergreen Cemetery at Roanoke, Va.
