Mrs. Callie Mae Marion Marshall, 78, of 548 Ground Hog Lane, Ararat, VA, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart, VA. She was born May 18, 1932, in Surry County, to the late Vance William Marion, Sr. and Bertha Ella Atkins Marion. She retired from Spencer's Inc. after 20 years service and was a farmer. Mrs. Marshall was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and attended Mount Ararat Pentecostal Holiness Church. Surviving are her husband, Clinton Marshall of the home; a daughter, Jayne Marshall Brogdon of Kodak, TN; three sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Leonard and Dr. Mary Ruth Marshall of Hampstead, Troy Dean and Linda Marshall of Ararat, VA, and Jason Dane and Arizona Marshall of New Bern; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Rachel Marion of Mount Airy, Vance Marion, Jr. and Shirley Marion of Thomasville, and Hugh Carroll and Carol Marion of Hedgesville, WV. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by a grandson, Craig Clinton Marshall; and two sisters, Thelma M. Atkins and Doris Pruitt. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Rickey Rogers, Mr. Anthony Terry, and Mrs. Estelle Terry officiating. Burial will follow in the Marshall Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ararat Volunteer Fire Department or to the Ararat Rescue Squad, Ararat Highway, Ararat, VA 24053 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
