Callie Edith Marion Mayes

Mrs. Callie Edith Marion Mayes, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Mayes was born July 22, 1933, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Henry Roscoe and Auta Jane Carico Marion. Callie retired from Spencer's Inc. after 23 years of service and was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Roshell Beamer Mayes of Mount Airy; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Emmett and Evelyn Marion of Charlotte, Curtis and Colleen Marion of Stuart, VA, and Roy and Eve Marion of Clemmons; a brother-in-law, the Rev. Charlie Lee Goins of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and her extended family from Piney Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mayes was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtle Marion and Arlein Agnes Marion Goins; a brother, Paul Ashby Marion; and a sister-in-law, Audrey Mosley Marion. A service to celebrate the life of Callie will be held Friday, April 26, 2013, at 3:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark A. Reece, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1022, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
