Mrs. Callie Unice Mickle Wood, 102, of Dobson, NC died on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Heritage Health Care of Elkin, 560 Johnson Ridge Rd Elkin NC. She was born in Surry County on April 24, 1907. She was the daughter of William A. "Bill" and Etta Ball Mickle. She was a homemaker and much loved wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Dobson First Baptist Church since 1977 after moving to make her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Pauline and Roger Eads. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harvey H. Wood on April 18th, 1952; five children also preceded her in death, Mary Wood Carter, Odell Wood, and three infant children Viola, Howard and Virginia Wood; four brothers Jim Mickle, McKinley Mickle, Avery Mickle and Bruce Mickle; four sisters Sena Walls, Bessie Long, Lilly Reavis and Cynthia Fettig. Surviving are her daughter Pauline Eads of Dobson; two sons Billy R. Wood and his wife Lala of Statesville, NC and A.L. Wood and wife Ruthie of Hiddenite, NC; one son-in-law Edsel Carter of Harmony, NC; two sisters Nancy Stafford of Spartanburg, SC and Marie Rogers of Hamptonville, NC; one brothers Riley Mickle of Ronda, NC; by twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; three God grandchildren, Whitt Helton, Joey Helton, and Ann Marie Fowler; by several nieces and nephews and one special niece Marjorie Gregory of Elkin, NC. Her home going will be celebrated at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, June 30th 2009 at the Dobson First Baptist Church, Dobson NC with her pastor Rev. Michael Macon and a good friend Rev. Tom Parker. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Elkin, NC. The family will receive friends at the Church one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to the Dobson First Baptist Church Building Fund C/O Ray Hall P.O. Box 278, Dobson NC 27017. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Wood family.
