Calvin Herbert Besore, Sr. the younger son of the late Mr. and Mrs. P.J. Besore, born in Ida Grove, Iowa on February 20, 1932 and passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC on April 18, 2017. He was baptized in 1932 in the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ida Grove, Iowa. He graduated from high school in 1950 and married his high school sweetheart, Dorotha (Dot) on May 20, 1951. They lived in Ida Grove until he was called to serve in the US Army Corp of Engineers attached to the United State Air Force, during the Korean War. He served from 1952-1954.He attended the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY from 1954-1958, receiving a BS in Photo Science. After graduation, he attended the University of Illinois earning a MA in Mathematical Statistics. Cal was employed for 13 years by Ansco Division of GAF in Binghamton, NY as an Engineer, Manager and Director of Mfg. Services. In 1973, he joined the textile/apparel company, Quality Mills in Mt. Airy, NC and finished 25 years of service as Director of Technical Operations. After his retirement he was an avid antique dealer, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Airy where he served as an Elder. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 66years, Dorotha (Dot) Besore; a daughter, Barbara Ann Besore South and husband, Stephen, of Greensboro, NC; a son, Charles Henry Besore and wife, Linda of Berlin, WI; five grandchildren, Charles Henry Besore, II and wife, Melissa of New Underwood, SD; Katherine Elizabeth South of Santa Rosa, CA; Steven Philip Besore of Berlin, WI, Christine Nicole South of Chapel Hill, NC and Jonathan Alexander Besore of Berlin, WI., five great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Randall Justin West of Bedford, TX. In addition to his parents, Cal was preceded in death by a son, Calvin Herbert Besore, Jr., and a brother, John P. Besore, Jr. A memorial service for Mr. Besore will be held Monday, April 24, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Airy, with Rev. Griffin Gatewood officiating. The Besore family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 1286, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
