Calvin Junior Newman

Mr. Calvin Junior Newman, 66, of 189 Indian Trail, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday morning, November 25, 2009, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Newman was born January 21, 1943, in Surry County, to the late Robert Lee and Annie Eliza Jessup Newman. Calvin was affectionately known as "Buckeye" to his family and many friends. He loved bluegrass music and was a member of Mount Herman United Methodist Church. He is survived by three sisters, Dorothy Newman and Dale Scott, both of Westfield, and Mary Ann Soulia of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Newman was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Louise Smith and Virginia Ella Godfrey. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 28, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Mount Herman United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd and the Rev. Harry M. Sherrill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
