Mrs. Candy Jean Cassell Gunter, 45, of 115 Timber Lane, Lowgap, passed away Friday morning, February 18, 2011, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Gunter was born December 9, 1965, in Surry County, daughter of Charles Ray Cassell and Jean Law Cassell Byrd. Candy was formerly employed as the store manager at Kerr Drug in Dobson and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Ararat. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, William Todd Gunter of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and Matthew Nunn of Mount Airy and Noelle and Zackary Tate of Lowgap; two grandsons, Nathan Nunn and Wesley Nunn, both of Mount Airy; her mother, Jean Law Cassell Byrd of Mount Airy; her father, Charles Ray Cassell of Dobson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Randy Ray and Dawn Cassell and James Chad and Christy Cassell, all of Mount Airy; four nephews, Avery James Cassell, Tyler Joyce, and Jamie Gunter, all of Mount Airy, and Kevin Gunter of Wyoming; a step-nephew, Michael Lee Harrison of Mount Airy; her maternal grandmother, Alma Corder Law of Mount Airy; and a special cousin, Brandi Lawson of Mount Airy. Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, James Franklin Law; and her paternal grandparents, Samuel Ellis and Luna Atkins Cassell. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 21, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Imogene Baptist Church, with Brother Ken Aman, the Rev. Jeff Cassell, and the Rev. Lonnie Gunter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
