Captola Doris Collins Barnes

Mrs. Captola Doris Collins Barnes, 82, of 142 New Street, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Barnes was born June 29, 1925, in Surry County, to the late Roy and Lela Bowman Collins. She was a faithful member of Bannertown Baptist Church and had been employed many years at Wall's Jewelry, First Union Bank, Wachovia Bank, and Leonard's Jewelry. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Deloris and Jim Thomas of Williamsburg, VA; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Flinchum and husband, Gilbert, of Mount Airy and Evelyn Barnes of Martinsville, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, James Vester Barnes; and a sister, Melba Michael. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Bannertown Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. David Allred, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Bannertown Baptist Church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time for the service. The family would like to extend special thanks to America Health Care Service, Nancy Harold, Martha McBride, Jean Harold, the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, Dr. Jennifer Logan, and her many neighbors and friends for their love and care.
