Mr. Carey Russell Chappell, 60, of Winston-Salem, passed away early Monday morning, February 19, 2018, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Russell was born June 3, 1957, at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, VA, one of four children born to the late Carey Leslie and Alethia Vernon Casper Chappell. Russell was a self-employed woodworker and small business owner. As a craftsman, he appreciated dreaming, designing, and building. As part of a military family, Russell grew up enjoying travel and that passion continued into adulthood. He recalled some of his favorite destinations as Australia, Pakistan, Canada, and most recently England. Above all, Russell was a kind and gentle man who modeled integrity to all who had the joy of knowing him. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ka’thy Gore Chappell; a daughter and son-in-law, Alethia Ellen and Harrison Garrett DeHay of Waco, TX; a sister, Michelle DeNeice Chappell of Charlotte; and two brothers, Terry Blaine Chappell of Greensboro and Charles Leslie Chappell of Charlotte. Along with his immediate family, he was loved by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. A service of worship and celebration of Russell’s life will be held Friday, February 23, 2018, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church on Fifth in Winston-Salem, with the Rev. Emily Hull McGee, the Rev.
