Mr. Carl Edward Haynes, 85, of 596 Haystack Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at his home. Mr. Haynes was born November 10, 1921, in Surry County, to the late Robert William and Princie Young Haynes. He served our country in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a salesman at Kasco Feed and Seed Store for many years and was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jerallene and Kent Vernon, Carlene and Kenneth Atkins, and Becky Haynes, all of Mount Airy; six grandchildren and spouses, Anessa Vernon, Luke and Kelli Atkins, Cody Leftwich, and Lindsay Atkins, all of Mount Airy, Travis and Jasmine Vernon of Wilmington, and Cassie Leftwich of Delray Beach, FL; and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Haynes was preceded in death by his wife, Mertha Lee Hill Haynes; a daughter, Kathy Sue Haynes; a grandson, Kent Mitchell Vernon, Jr.; and a sister, Lena Haynes. The funeral service will be held Friday, December 1, 2006, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Ronald Thomas. Burial will follow in the Laurel Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, Surry County Senior Services, and Brenda Westmoreland for their many acts of kindness and the love and support shown to Mr. Haynes during his illness.
