Carl Elbert Murphy

Mr. Carl Elbert Murphy, age 92, of Lowgap, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at his home.  Mr. Murphy was born in Surry County on July 15, 1926, to Fred and Pearl Murphy.  He proudly served our country in the United States Navy and was retired from NC State DOT.  Surviving is his loving wife, Blanche Gray Murphy; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Frank Barrera; a son, Robert Murphy; grandchildren, Jennifer Bledsoe, Dale Roberts, and Tommy Coleman; great grandchildren, Jordan Bledsoe, Matthew Bledsoe, Anthony Bledsoe, Bentley Coleman, and Sydney Coleman; and a sister, Ella Mae Lowe.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Murphy.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 22, 2019 at Moody Funeral Home by Rev. Joe Atkins.  Burial will follow in Roaring Gap Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Pilot Mtn Post 9436 & Mt. Airy Post 2019.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
