Mr. Carl Brent Simpson, 73, of Ararat, passed away early Monday morning, May 14, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Simpson was born January 6, 1945, in Surry County, one of two children born to Carl Edgar and Hester Wolfe Simpson. Brent retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after many years of service, and he owned and operated C and B Salvage. In 1986, Brent and a neighbor, Paul D. Key, founded Eldora Handicamp, a weekend summer camp for individuals with disabilities. He was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Delana Love Simpson of the home; a daughter, Monica Simpson Taylor of Ararat; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Amy Simpson of Ararat and Kevin and Susan Simpson of Elkin; his grandchildren, Tyler and Laken Simpson of Mount Airy, Kyle and Brandi Simpson of Ararat, and Dylan Simpson of Elkin; three great-grandchildren, Jepp Brent Simpson and Lera Kathleen Simpson, both of Ararat, and Everly Jeanette Simpson of Mount Airy; his mother, Hester Wolfe Simpson of Ararat; a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Burton Davis of Pilot Mountain; his extended family, Kenny Gammons of Mount Airy and Tommy Mears of Ararat, along with Morgan Mears and Maddie Kay Mears, both of Ararat, J.D. Gammons of Dobson, Casey Gammons of Mount Airy, and Ellie Grace Gammons of Dobson; his mother-in-law, Ruth Love of Mount Airy; and many relatives and friends. Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanette Atkins Simpson; his father, Carl Edgar Simpson; and a son-in-law, Johnny Wade Taylor. The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Rock Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lee Johnson and the Rev. Russ Nixon officiating. Burial will follow in the New Home Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
