Carl Scott Tolbert

Mr. Carl Scott Tolbert, 55, of China Grove, passed away Tuesday morning, November 14, 2023, at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.  Mr. Tolbert was born March 25, 1968, in Surry County, the younger of two children born to the late Jack Donald and Carlene Patricia Shelton Tolbert.  Scott grew up in Mount Airy and graduated from Mount Airy High School in 1986.  He later earned an electronics degree from Surry Community College.  Scott served our country in the United States Army, retiring in 2007 after 24 years of faithful and dedicated service.  During his service time, he was a member of the 101st Airborne Division, an infantry division that specializes in air assault operations, plus he served two tours in Iraq, was stationed in Baghdad during Desert Storm, and the war in Afghanistan.  After retiring from the Army, he worked as an IT technician at Novant Health in Winston-Salem.  He is survived by his wife and soulmate, Susan “Sue” Quigley Tolbert, whom he married March 13, 2013; a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Willie Wilburn; and many friends.  A graveside memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Surry Veterans Cemetery, with the Rev. Arlis Thomas officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard.  No formal visitation will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS  66675-8516.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
