Mr. Carlie Roosevelt Marion, 94, of Elkin widower of Myrtle Slaydon Marion and Ethel Pardue Marion passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on February 8, 1913 to the late Jessie Franklin and Fannie Atkins Marion. Mr. Marion was a retired farmer and carpenter and a dedicated member of East Elkin Full Gospel Church. He was devoted to this family and enjoyed many years of playing bluegrass music. In addition to his parents and wives, Mr. Marion was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Lorene Riggs Marion; a daughter and son-in-law, Lola and Junior Riggs; an infant daughter; a granddaughter, Paula Watson; one sister and seven brothers; one half-sister and five half-brothers. Left to cherish his memory are one son Kenneth Marion of Mt. Airy; and three daughters and two sons-in-law Jessie and Donald Watson of Greensboro, Gladys and Edward Bauguess of Elkin and Jo Nell and Owen Parrish of Winston-Salem; twenty grandchildren; thirty one great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson with Rev. Kermit Gray, Rev. Martha Childress, Rev. Jerry Childress and Rev. Jimmy Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm on Friday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home.
