Mr. Carlie Leonard McCormick, 87, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at Baptist Hospital. Mr. McCormick was born March 28, 1920, in Surry County, to Elijah Joseph and Pearl Moore McCormick. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and served in Army Air Force during World War II. He is survived by three stepdaughters, Jewell Stanley and Louise Michaels, both of Mount Airy, and Nancy Baity and husband, Jim, of Greensboro; two stepsons and their wives, Donald and Doris Holder and Raymond and Bernell Holder, all of Mount Airy; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mozelle and Bruce Janes of Freeport, IL, Bessie and Max Bunker of Clemmons, and Annie and Clay Ladd of Winston-Salem. In addition to his parents, Mr. McCormick was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Lou Burcham McCormick; two sisters, Lula McCormick and Ivylyn McCormick; three brothers, Alonzo McCormick, J.C. McCormick, and Billy McCormick; and several half-sisters and half-brothers. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 5, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Dale Wallace and the Rev. Bruce Janes. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends at Antioch Baptist Church on Saturday from 9:30 until the time for the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Van Fund, 137 Antioch Avenue, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
