Carlton Eugene Goins

Mr. Carlton Eugene Goins “Dude”, 65, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Goins was born November 18, 1952, in Surry County, the son of the late Alvin and Iris Lawson Goins. Mr. Goins proudly served Surry County as well as the City of Mount Airy in many capacities. He was the first Fire Safety/Training Officer in the Mount Airy Fire Department; he was the first Surry County 911 Communications Director as well as the first EMT in the Mount Airy Fire Department. Mr. Goins also served as a North Carolina Fire Instructor and taught many classes for the American Red Cross over the course of many years. He was an EMT-I that served as a reservist for Surry County EMS. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Four Way Fire Department, and was an honorary member of Surry County AAMA. He also served in many other aspects of Surry County Fire and EMS as well as taught various classes in the surrounding areas. He retired as the Fire Safety/Training Officer from Mount Airy Fire Department. Mr. Goins was a member of Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years, and was also a member of the Flat Rock Ruritan Club. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Ward Goins of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carla Danielle and husband Brian Easter of Mount Airy; two grandchildren; Chloee Janielle Dean, Nathaniel Gray Easter; Benny’s boys, Deputy Andrew Leon Goins, and Staff Sergeant L.J. Goins; and a special companion, Dory. In addition to his parents, Mr. Goins was preceded in death by a brother, Benny Leon Goins, his grandparents, Roy and Earlie Goins, Eva Lawson, and John Lawson. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 24, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Dr. David Sparks, Rev. Tony Goins Rev. Wayne Knight officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens with honors performed by the Mount Airy Public Safety Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church.
