Carole Ann Ayers

Ms. Carole Ann Ayers, 84, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.  Ms. Ayers was born July 20, 1935, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Elmer Louis Ayers, Sr. and Hilma Amelia Horn Ayers.  Carole worked as a sewing machine operator at Kentucky Derby Hosiery for many years.  She later worked in operations at AT&T, where she ultimately retired.  She is survived by a son, Roger Goins; her grandchildren, Amelia and Darrell Dykes, Misty Oakley, and Michael Grogan; three great-grandchildren, Makayla Estep, Maverick Dykes, and Mason Dykes; and a brother, Roger Lewis Ayers of Mount Airy.  In addition to her parents, Ms. Ayers was preceded in death by two daughters, Brala Fon Johnson (infant) and Ebbla Jay Johnson; a son, James Elvis Johnson, Jr.; and two brothers, Berle Andrew “Andy” Ayers and E.J. Ayers.  A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Laurel Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Butch Holder officiating.  No formal visitation will be held.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
