Mrs. Carolyn Virginia Cooper Comer, 83, of 608 Blessing Drive. Dobson, NC died peacefully in her sleep early Thursday morning November 15, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, Elkin. She was born at Martin Memorial Hospital, Mt. Airy, August 30, 1924, to the late Grady and Zella Blessing Cooper of Dobson. She attended Martha Washington College and Woman's College of the University of North Carolina. In 1950, she married W. Frank Comer who died in 1986. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor Cooper and Mary Cooper Dobbins. Surviving family members include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Grady Jr. and Lib Cooper, Raleigh, John and Mary Lou Cooper, Pittsboro; three sisters-in-law, Blanche Comer, Cary, Ann Comer, Salisbury and Magdalene Comer, Mt. Airy; several nephews and nieces, including Grover and Martha Dobbins, Marietta, GA, Dan and Angie Dobbins, Beverly Hills, MI, Grady III and Jane Cooper, Santa Barbara, CA, Caroline and Kent Lamn, Charlotte, Steve and Mary Cooper, Pittsboro, Van and Harvi Cooper Raleigh, Sam Cooper Raleigh, John and Lilo Comer, Dobson, Bob and Vonda Comer, Dobson and several other family members whom she loved and appreciated. Mrs. Comer retired after 41 years in executive positions at Surry-Yadkin Electric Membership Corporation (formerly REA). She was a former member of the Board of Trustees of Surry Community College and Board of Directors of the former Mutual Savings and Loan, Elkin. She was a lifelong member of Dobson United Methodist Church, having served in several leadership positions. She was a member of the Church's Eleanor Cooper Circle, The Dobson Woman's Club and the Dobson Community Council. The funeral service will be held 11:30 AM Saturday, November 17 at Dobson United Methodist Church with
Rev. Kathy Early officiating. Burial will follow in the Dobson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home, Dobson, 10:00 to 11:00 AM before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church at P. O. Box 497, Dobson, N.C. 27017.
