Carolyn Gates

Miss Carolyn Grace Gates, 69, of Walnut Cove, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at her home.  She was born on May 5, 1951 in Surry County, to the late Hugh Nelson Gates, Sr. and the late Klyne Jones Gates.  Miss Gates was a loving daughter, sister, and friend that will be deeply missed by all that knew her.  She studied at Longwood College and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in psychology and then later obtained her Master’s Degree in Counseling from A&T University.  Carolyn worked for Hanebrands, Inc. for over twenty years.  She enjoyed bring joy and laughter to her coworkers.  Left to cherish her memories are her sister and brother-in-law, Inez Gates Gough and husband Van; her brother, Hugh Nelson Gates, Jr.; one nephew, Jon Gates; and a special aunt, Savannah “Polly” Smith; and aunt and uncle, Verna and Clinton “Bunky” Midkiff.  A graveside will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens.  Miss Gates will lie-in-state from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Monday, March 21, 2021 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to your local animal rescue groups or shelters.   To send flowers to Carolyn's family, please visit our floral store.
