Mrs. Carolyn Gladys Lankford Marsh, 81, of 278 Laurel Springs Church Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, February 8, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Marsh was born August 8, 1929, in Patrick County, VA, daughter of the late John and Lucy Payne Lankford. Carolyn worked at several textile mills in the area, with her longest tenure at Spencer's Inc. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Peggy Marsh of Mount Airy; two grandchildren and their spouses, Suzette and Doug Glasco and John and Heather Marsh, all of Mount Airy; two stepgrandchildren and their spouses, Bucky and Kelly Hauser of Claudville, VA, and David and Gwen Hauser of High Point; five great grandchildren, Jordan Marsh, Cole Glasco, Eli Marsh, Jarred Marsh, and Sarah Glasco, all of Mount Airy; five great-stepgrandchildren, Taylor Hauser and Tillee Hauser, both of Claudville, VA, and Bailey Lance, Brennan Hauser, and Ashton Hauser, all of High Point; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Sue and Radford Hiatt of Westfield, Anne and Lurry Plauché of Louisiana, and Ed Copeland of Asheboro; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Opal Lankford and Joe and Gatha Lankford, all of Claudville, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Marsh was preceded in death by her husband, James Herman Marsh; a daughter-in-law, Christine Towe Marsh; two sisters, Irene Copeland and Essie Willard; a brother, Claude "Trig" Lankford, and a nephew, Eddie Copeland. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 11, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Sam Holder and Barry Bickerstaff officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
