Carolyn Geiger Quesinberry, age 54, of Mount Airy, wife of Freddie Quesinberry, passed away at their home January 20, 2009. Carolyn was born in Watauga County on May 3, 1954 to Johnny and Sue Tilley Geiger. She graduated from Mount Airy High School in 1972 and from Appalachian State University in 1976. Mrs. Quesinberry was a gifted and well-loved teacher for over 27 years working in several area school systems - Mount Airy City, Surry County, Stokes County, and Forsyth County, as well as Garland County, Arkansas. In March 2005, she and her husband, Freddie embarked on their latest endeavor opening Opie's Candy Store on Main Street Mount Airy. Carolyn will be remembered for her big smile, contagious laugh, and zest for life. She is survived by her husband Freddie; Two daughters, Abigail and Elizabeth both of Winston Salem, NC; her step daughter, Melissa of Brooklyn, New York; Her parents, Johnny and Sue Tilley Geiger of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; her grandmother, Frances Belle Geiger Cooper of Morehead City, NC; brother, Bobby, his wife Dawn, and their son, Landon; sisters in law, Daphne Ayers and her husband, Tim of Mount Airy, Suzanne Foushee of Winston Salem, and brother in law, Dudley Quesinberry and his wife, Debbie of Floyd, VA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday January 24 in the Moody Funeral Chapel in Mount Airy with the service conducted by Rev. Todd Byrd with interment to follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The Quesinberry family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 until 9PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200 Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to the University of Pittsburgh Liver Cancer Center, Development UPMC Cancer Pavilion, Suite 1B, 5150 Centre Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15232. A special thank you to Dr. Eugene Paschold, Dr. T. Clark Gamblin, Paula Norman, Ann Pitcairn, Mount Airy Chemo staff, and hospice nurses Amy Worrell and Jill Murray for their compassionate care.
