Carolyn Clay Davis Whitaker

Ms. Carolyn Clay Davis Whitaker, 71, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 10, 2016, at Rose Tara Plantation in King. Ms. Whitaker was born April 18, 1945, in Surry County, one of three children born to the late Warren G. and Lucille Ring Davis. Carolyn retired as a sales representative from Insteel Wire Products and was a member of Hatchers Chapel United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Adrienne and James Hicks, II of Mount Airy and Tracy Patterson Harvey of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Meredith Hicks of Mount Airy; a sister, Nancy Davis Terry of Wilson; a brother and sister-in-law, Warren Gary and Laura Davis of Collinsville, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews, Christy Davis Bentley, Chris Davis, Donna Patterson Dotson, Tina Patterson Butcher, Kevin Patterson, Shane Wilkins, Dusty Wilkins, Sarah Wheeler Martin, and Jason Terry. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Alton Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. At other times, the family welcomes friends to the home of Adrienne and James Hicks, II at 160 Hicks Hill Trail in Mount Airy. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Rose Tara Plantation for the exceptional care Mrs. Whitaker was given during her stay. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Suite 999, Charlotte, NC 28215.
