Carrie Durham Bowman

Ms. Carrie Durham Bowman, 87, of 790 Quaker Road, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, March 24, 2011, at her home. Ms. Bowman was born November 6, 1923, in Surry County, daughter of the late Jesse and Selena Hiatt Durham. Carrie retired from Renfro Corporation after 39 years of service and was a member of Shelton Church of the Brethren. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Merle and Larry Lambert of Mount Airy and Phyllis Bowman of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Nancy Bowman of Mount Airy; six grandchildren, Sharon Lambert, Scott Lambert, Sheila Lambert Diggs, Todd Bowman, Matthew Bowman, and Cara Bowman Hiatt; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Bowman was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucy Lowe, Mary Lee Hawks, and Louisa Kirkman; and three brothers, Joe Durham, Roy Durham, and Harvey Durham. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
