Mrs. Celia Mae Sawyers Cook, lifetime resident of Mt. Airy, widow of Richard Rock Cook, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2006 in Mt. Airy. Mrs. Cook was born in Surry County to Lee Grand and Sadie Venable Sawyers. She was a loving mother, grandmother and was retired from Hanes Corporation. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Robin Cook and husband, Dale Crabill of St. Petersburg, FL; a grandson, Eston Crabill also St. Petersburg; sisters Lola Sawyers Boles of Ararat, NC; Susie Sawyers Cook of Mt. Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by a son, Charles Richard Cook; a sister, Levy Kathleen Sawyers and brothers, Howard Sawyers, Romey Sawyers, Gratsie Sawyers, Elmer Sawyers and Everette Sawyers. A graveside service will be held at 5:00 PM, Sunday, October 1, 2006 at Skyline Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Scleroderma Research Foundation at 220 Montgomery St. Suite 1411, San Francisco, CA 94104 or to Mountain Valley Hospice at 401 Technology Lane, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
