Charldeen Hawks

Mrs. Charldeen Gordon Hawks, of Mt. Airy, passed away at her home Thursday, September 2, 2021. She was born in Surry County, June 25, 1930, to the late Jesse William “Bud” and Bessie Lee Young Gordon. Mrs. Hawks was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend. She retired from nursing at Northern Hospital of Surry County which exemplified her personality of showing love and compassion to others. Mrs. Hawks was a faithful member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and was a member of the Oak Ridge Quartet as long as her health permitted. Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32--And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. She is survived by her loving son, Mark Hawks. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawks was preceded in death by her husband Cossie Hawks; her sisters, Catherine Bliss, Dot Gilley, Doris Owens; and her brothers, Larry, and George “Cotton” Gordon. A private graveside service was held at Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
