Mr. Charles Wilson Atkins, 71, of Mt. Airy passed away Friday, May 7, 2021 at Northern Regional Hospital in Mt. Airy. He was born in Surry County on March 23, 1950 to the late Clandis and Violet Fulk Atkins. Mr. Atkins was owner of Atkins Trucking, and a member of Dover Baptist Church. Mr. Atkins proudly served our country in the United Stated Army. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Dollyhigh Atkins; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael “Todd” and Tabitha Atkins, Charles “Chuck” and Cynthia Atkins; a daughter, Michelle Clark; grandchildren, Brandon, Justin, Cody, Ashley, Austin, Jessie, Joanna, T.J., Wesley, Trenton, and Addyson; seven great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Shirley and Gilmer Dollarhite, Rita Nichols and Gina Dollyhigh; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike Dollyhigh and wife Robin, Larry and Carol Atkins, Lonnie and Rita Atkins, Daryll and Betty Atkins; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Atkins; a special niece, Tilda Atkins. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Dover Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Jones, the Rev. Tony White, and the Rev. James Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Dover Baptist Church. Moody Funeral home in Mt. Airy is serving the Atkins family.
