Mr. Charles Wayne “Pete” Benge, 75, of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on May 1, 1940 to the late Charlie and Emma Myrtle Surratt Benge. Mr. Benge was retired from R. J. Reynolds. He served our country in the United States Army. He is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley Benge, Virginia and Fred Abels, Wanda and Don Surratt all of Mt. Airy, Alma Warf of Newport News, VA; a brother, Bobby Benge and friend Maxine Carlisle of Mt. Airy; nieces, Karen Warf of Virginia Beach, VA, Dorlisa Abels and fiancé Alan Quesinberry of Charlotte; nephew, Timothy Warf of Newport News, VA; a special friend, David Carlisle. In addition to his parents, Mr. Benge was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Mason Warf. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Slate and Elder Carlton Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Patricia Zekan and her staff for the love and care given to Mr. Benge during his illness. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Multiple Myeloma Foundation, 383 Main Avenue Fifth Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851. Mr. Benge battled Multiple Myeloma for over thirteen years.
