Charles William Blackard

Mr. Charles William Blackard, age 80, of Woolwine, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.  He was born in Patrick County on August 26, 1937 to the late Shuble Blackard and Pearl Marie Holt Blackard.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Henry Blackard; one grandson, Justin Hopkins; and two brothers, J.C. Blackard and Bennie Ray Blackard.  William was an Assistant Plant Manager with Bassett Walker in Patrick County and served 30 years as a Supervisor with United Elastic.  He was a member of Minnie’s Chapel Wesleyan Church.

            Surviving are his wife, Doris Haden-Blackard of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen B. Hopkins of Stuart, Lisa and John Hooker of Claudville; three step-daughters, Dorinda Clark of Woolwine, Darla Haden of Woolwine, Laura Anglin and husband, Dale of Hardy; three grandchildren, Charles Allen Blackard, Kasey Marie Blackard, Rachel Lynn Blackard; four step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and James Lawson of Stuart, Shirley and Glenn Handy of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews.

            Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Gary Combs officiating.  Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Patrick Memorial Gardens, 20937 Jeb Stuart Hwy, Stuart, VA 24171 or to Woltz Hospice Home in memory of Charles William Blackard, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017.  Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
